Laboured 1980s humour comedy series based on very popular at the time trashy paperback - plot just gets sillier and sillier without being as funny as it wants to be. But some good moments.

The story involves the proposed construction of a motorway (M101 in the book and the M399 in the film) through Cleene Gorge in rural South Worfordshire (a fictional gorge in a fictional English county). At one end of the gorge is Handyman Hall, home to politician Sir Giles Lynchwood and his wife Lady Maud Lynchwood. Filmed mainly in South Shropshire. Handyman Hall was filmed at Stanage Park, near Heartsease, Powys (all eps). Ludlow stood in for the fake town of Worford (most eps), and Deddington near Banbury became the village of Guildstead Carbonell, where several mock buildings were demolished in the market place for the film (eps 5 & 6, some earlier sequences as well). Ludlow's Butter Cross, in the town centre, was used as the courtroom (ep1 riot and ep2). The Lodge where Blott lives (ep6 finale, seen in other eps) was built on land at Blaise Castle Estate near Bristol.

Had this series been made a few years earlier, and bearing in mind the scenes of mayhem with the construction vehicles, it might have been called "Drott on the Landscape".

@ Baube:
The "little blue car" is somewhat bigger than expected, I think :D

Tea and cakes in De Grey's, the answer to all ills, even though it's in Shropshire.
