(I really doubt they'll accept this almost unknown TV special.)![]() ![]() "For the first time in human history, the total extinction of man is possible, even likely." 1985 is a 1970 made-for-television film by the now-defunct Metromedia that deals with a dystopian/speculative future in which we see various news reports a la "Special Bulletin (1983)" or "Without Warning (1994)". In this plot, we follow Mark Evans (an other IRL Metromedia personalities) as we witness the world's downfall due to the high presence of chemicals and rampant pollution. The film is right now available on YouTube and the University of Berkeley website, because it was only shown twice despite having huge publicity, according to TV Tropes. Due to the nature of the film, it is practically a 'Faux-Newscast' or "Phony Newscast", I doubt it will be accepted (even though the plot and its theme are more fantastical or exaggerated), but I will still post some example vehicles that appear in each segment seen (which only makes the panorama of the world of "1985" worse as they happen). ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() -- Last edit: 2025-10-04 11:22:31 |

It's rather a documentary and it seems to come with traffic backgrounds only - still, it might be somehow interesting? |

Yeah, actually is a Mockumentary. In fact, this was done to raise awareness about environmental protection (considering that the year it was released was the first Earth Day). Although it goes without saying that they may have succeeded, considering that the tone of the film/mockumentary is more pessimistic and/or terrifying (heck, even the intro itself says that we are probably approaching extinction). Just to name a few, in "1985" there's a famine in Africa, South America hasn't been heard from in four days, Los Angeles is suffering from smog and excessive pollution, and Boston is suffering from a blackout, all the crops are failing to grow, and the fish have died from excess DDT and other harmful substances. You also have Bill Jorgensen, a pre-'Maury' Maury Povich, Ken Gilmore, George Putnam, and others, who ultimately seem to lose touch with Mark Evans until the government takes over the television signals due to the crisis. |

Seems to be mislabeled on IMDB. The admins discussed and we will accept it because of it's unique nature and for historic context. |

I did try to capture this once but the player on University of Berkeley's website was very unstable. Merely pausing would make the whole thing stop working. |

@Venezuelancar How were you able to find this on YouTube? Whenever I tried to search, I just got random films from the years 1970 and 1985. |

In fact, someone has already released the film on YouTube under the name "Metromedia's 1985." However, it features a different personalized plaque from the uploader at the beginning, unlike the UC Berkeley recordings that features the original one. -- Last edit: 2025-10-09 12:11:04 |

I'll have a look-see through it too, see if there's anything else. -- Last edit: 2025-10-09 15:12:53 |
