Do we still list this stuff? Travel documentaries yes, but this /movie_1004509893-Paris-Actualités--Le-monde-sous-vos-yeux--Journal-d-informations-filmées.html was before we really established rules on what to add and what not (hence the notorious unknowns there...) |

No, normally we don't, but Sixcyl does not really follow the rules... Anyway this is not a TV series (IMDb lists anything in episodes as a TV series), this is more a newsreels. The closest on the site would be non-fiction TV but there is not really a category since it is not supposed to be here (just filling the database a bit more). |

Some are interested by cars, no matter from where they come. But this site has to have some limits, as nothing is infinite. The bigger the database the more problems arise. It is always the same discussion: the idea of the site is not a collection of car pictures, but listing cars seen in movies and TV series, not anything seen on a screen. -- Last edit: 2024-04-15 10:25:34 |

That's why old documentaries are often accepted, as long as the cars are really well visible and that it is not too obscure/unknown and the amount of background cars is limited. On that subject, some background ones could probably be regrouped though (just taken randomly: I see two 58 Dauphine). -- Last edit: 2024-04-16 13:49:35 |

^ Agree we should try to be pragmatic with old docs and selective about what deserves a place on the site. They can contain reference material which can't be found from other sources, so some have unique value. And several of us enjoy following the various rabbit holes which open up. We need to feed all the troops to keep our army of truthseekers together - if we lose folk because they're not interested in the modern stuff, it's sad. We need diversity of content to keep everyone's attention and involvement. That said, those of us who are fans of old docs need to self-discipline about what we post, because there is a bottomless pit of stuff out there, and ensure what we upload has some status, and ignore stuff that doesn't; this is not a criticism for sixcyl or this series, just an overall comment about how we select or reject what we offer up. I've uploaded lots of old docs in the past, usually from commercially available BFi dvd sets. These seem to have been enjoyed, with lots of folk joining in with comments, IDs, research etc, so I think enough boxes were ticked to justify their inclusion. I'd like to think the site will continue to allow these and equivalent contributions. |

I appreciate a lot what you say dear dsl and feel very close to the way of thinking you have about this site, and why we spend so many time here (sweet ephemism) to share so many sources as diverse as they are varied. I love the collaborative work that is created around this hobby where everyone brings their contribution to the building, their skills, knowledge and taste in this or that field, that's why I'm still there since (almost) the creation of IMCDb. I agree with self-discipline in choosing what should be highlighted and what should not. Whatever is said here and there, I also observe this rule with perhaps a little more vagueness than some would like. To illustrate my point, I will try to explain certain choices with this documentary series. See below in my comments on (big boss ![]() Through this example, let me try to explain my logic in this choice. 1- They belong to 2 different films in the series, and I am principled on the form and presentation of this page while respecting the identity of each film within the film, as independent entities. See the different sub categories (Ep.1.01 to.. 4.11) in the comments. 2- Though not really well visible the Dauphines seen in Episode 1.10 correspond a to the vehicles mentioned in the dialogue between the interlocutors. In this sense they are badged 2 **. Otherwise they would have been returned in the comments dedicated to episode 1.10 The Dauphine seen on Rue Michelet in Algiers (I've lived there when I was 10 to 13 ![]() On the other hand, I did not select the 203 (thum.5) which we see in episode 3.04... So? self-discipline for instance! ![]() |
