6-part police series from Ireland, part filmed in Antwerp. The Irish Criminal Asset Bureau chase a network of fraud, drug distribution, money laundering and diamond smuggling, so lots of procedural stuff, computers and diagrams on white boards. An enjoyable journey, although some plot holes along the way and the finale revelation about the full shadowy conspiracy is a bit flimsy. However it leaves enough hooks and loose ends for a second series .....

It is refreshing for a detective drama to see detectives focusing on detecting without being distracted by the usual genre cliches of unnecessary personal issues (fractured families, illicit relationships, tedious past tragedies or secrets, rebellious teenagers etc) and none of the detectives drive Audis.

Planes for impdb - locations in both Ireland and Belgium during eps 1.02 and 1.03, but none of them are obviously specific so probably some fudging

... and now S2 has happened. Still a good series, again split between Ireland and Belgium, complicated plot with layers between layers (has a strong whiff of "Line of Duty" influence), picks up S1 themes and digs deeper. Needs concentration to keep track of everything and it might be difficult to follow S2 if you haven't seen S1, but I was hooked - again a few threads left open for another series (S3) with hints from final announcer voice-over it may be on the cards.

S2 has a fetish for black cars, BMWs, and black BMWs.

Guess what's just happened ........

S3 almost entirely filmed in and around Bilbao this time, some short Dublin scenes. Nothing in Belgium. Not as good as S1 and S2 - plot stopped making sense a few times and too many cliched roles started to appear. But they wrapped it all up neatly until the last few minutes when they flung in a stupid hook for another series (S4) which makes it look as if they're going in an increasingly soap opera direction rather than thrilling drama. If it ain't broke, don't try to fix it .....

I could be wrong, but I'm suspicious some of these "Bilbao" scenes were actually faked in Belgium.

^ I wondered about fake Bilbao-isms as well, but Belgium doesn't occur anywhere as a setting for S3 plot or characters. If there is fakery, I'd guess they used Dublin.

Link to "www.iftn.ie").

"The third season of the Irish crime-drama series is currently in production. The series is filming in Dublin, Antwerp and Bilbao until May 2025."

Some source seem to say Spain, Belgium and Dublin
