1983 Canadian-American made-for-TV biopic about legendary Canadian amputee, humanitarian, and cancer research activist Terry Fox. After requiring to have his leg amputated due to cancer and having a primitive prosthetic leg, Terry Fox embarked on a cross-country journey on foot to raise money for cancer research. Called the "Marathon of Hope", Terry aimed to jog all the way across Canada on foot, starting off from St. Johns in Newfoundland & Labrador, he ran the equivalent of a full marathon everyday, gathering support from businessman, politicians, and other athletes! He only stopped for resting at night in a camper van that a friend was following him in. However, after 143 days and covering 5'373 kilometers (or 3'339 miles), Terry was forced to call the marathon off upon reaching Thunder Bay, Ontario, after it was discovered his cancer had spread to his lungs. He hoped to continue the Marathon of Hope after he had beaten it, but he sadly lost his battle with cancer and passed away six months later to the great sadness of Canadians everywhere. Another amputee, Steve Fonyo, completed the full course of the Marathon of Hope in 1985 and raised $14 million in doing so!

Every year, numerous Terry Fox Runs are held annually throughout Canada for the purpose of raising money for cancer! When I was growing up, all the grade schools I attended always did a Terry Fox Run around the school's property line.

This is a very well-done film that got emotional at times. I do hope that this film receives a remaster for a potential Blu-Ray release. This film aired as a TV movie in the United States first before being released to Canadian theaters. This was also for the first TV movie made for a cable network, HBO in this case. Starring real-life amputee Eric Fryer as Terry Fox!

Filmed in the Canadian provinces of Ontario, British Columbia, and Newfoundland and Labrador.

not sure what Rocky has to do with that since Fox's only opponent was cancer..
