1953 Canadian war drama about an awkward French-Canadian soldier with an irreverent sense of humour and a volatile temper, which is how he earned the nickname 'Tit-Coq', who falls in love with his friend's sister, Marie-Ange, who promises to wait for him to come home when he is drafted to fight in WWII. Unfortunately he comes home to find out that Marie has broken her promise and he once again has to contend with being alone. Adapted from a play entitled "Le retour du conscrit" which was originally intended as a screenplay but became a play when it's author Gratien Gélinas was unable to secure funding. Between 1947 and 1950, it was performed over 500 times which convinced film producer Paul L'Anglais and Joseph-Alexandre DeSève that the play could work as a movie.

And before the jokes start rolling in, the title is pronounced "tee-kok" and translates to English as "little rooster". "Tit" is French Canadian slang for "petit" which as we all know is French for "small".
