dsl ◊ 2023-02-12 03:01	6 part series set in deepest west Wales, in and around Carmarthen. First released in Welsh as Y Golau on S4C, then in English on Channel 4. Either glacially slow or subtle and atmospheric - or both - but it worked for me. Excellent cast, and well defined characters (ordinary folk moulded by tragic events). No great thrills, car chases or policemen with guns, but it didn't need them. As far as I know only one series with this self-contained story fully wrapped up, but a short scene at end of ep 1.06 suggested it might have sequel(s) at some point. Rejects: - blurry red thing in shed seen a few times in ep 1.01 and 1.02 whenever this yard is visited - also ep 1.01 a parked line-up - ep 1.03 background in car park - unexplained poster with Mustang on the wall of local farmers livestock auction (ep 1.03)

dsl ◊ 2026-07-03 15:40	S2 (6 eps) now added. It's OK, but nothing like as good as S1. As one imdb review says "Enjoyed season 1. Man returns home after a stint in prison for murder. He maintains that he did not commit the crime, but townsfolk still shun him. A young, ambitious female journalist, looking for a big story, injects herself into the community in her quest to learn the truth. It is plainly obvious that there are townsfolk who know, but continue to conceal the truth about what occurred many years ago. Just began watching season two. A man returns home after a stint in prison for committing murder, which he denies committing. There are townsfolk who know, and hide the truth. A young female, looking for a big story, injects herself.... Wait! Isn't this where I came in? ... " S2 doesn't have the star cast of S1, and suffers as a result. Plot weaker and dribbles away to an unconvincing finale. Again set in and around Carmarthen, but scenery wasted as S2 all filmed in dark dreary weather so everything's just grey and miserable. A few incidental cars reappear from S1, nothing significant.
