7 episode series where Richard Wilson does 6 tours, each in a different 1950s car, plus a finale episode filmed before the tours started where he re-learns how to drive old things with manual and non-synchromesh gears, heavy steering etc. The line-up where he sees the selection for the first time in ep7 A fairly standard gentle daytime TV travel/nostalgia format where he stops off at places, looks at views, meets people, talks about the old days, etc, but lifted from the usual dross by some superb photography of the cars and the scenery. And RW is actually funny instead of just thinking he's funny, so it all trundles along enjoyably. Recommended, and the dvd is as cheap as chips from the usual online sources if anyone's interested. -- Last edit: 2018-05-09 17:44:57 |
