 I'm trying to work out whether the Heathrow shots were filmed in Britain or the US. The strange mix of cars - an early FX4 and not just one but two old Rolls-Royces - suggests that they were done in the US, but the Range Rover from that scene is still on the road in the UK. I've also read that they filmed some Moscow exteriors, which didn't make it to the final cut, in Liverpool.

 In the commentary on the DVD, director John McTiernan says that this scene was actually filmed at Los Angeles Airport.

BTW, the submarine seen in the movie wasn't an actual Typhoon submarine. Because Paramount couldn't get access to a real Typhoon, they had to build their own out of a barge.
