Be interesting to know if that was a working system or just a filmic collection of odds and ends. The paper tape in that Telex machine is either blank or has every position punched, which may be a test or just ignorance. It certainly doesn’t seem to be data! The second thumb looks a bit more realistic though. I started work in 1965, no mobile phones, no e-mail, no texts (obviously) photocopiers that worked at about 1 sheet per minute, databases held on punched cards or for accounting systems ledger cards, magnetic strips were just coming in. Electronic calculators were a novelty, and all outside phone calls from the office went via a telephonist. Internal office calls were on a push button intercom! If you needed to speak to the office on trips out, find a call box! Easy, find a working call box, hard! -- Last edit: 2023-07-26 22:39:46
