![]() 1998 comedy-thriller that uses an unproduced script that Ed Wood wrote in 1974 called I Awoke Early The Day I Died, itself a rewrite of a 1961 script written by Wood that was titled Silent Night. Made in the wake of the critically-acclaimed biopic Ed Wood, a cross-dressing mental patient escapes from an asylum and robs a loan officer after stealing a car, during which the loan officer is shot dead. The money is soon stolen from him, and he embarks on a killing spree in an attempt to retrieve it, finding himself in various misadventures along the way! Starring Billy Zane, Tippi Hendren, and Ron Perlman! Notably, this film contains no spoken dialogue, aside from narration, screams, laughter, and lyrics in background music. Keeping with Ed Wood's style, it makes copious use of stock footage and even has Conrad Brooks, Maila Nurmi, and Ed's widow, Kathy O'Hara, in bit parts. All three of those actors had previously been in Ed Wood's films. |
