The Fords on this show apparently came from an LA-area Ford dealer as part of an arrangement with the show's producers and Ford. I've noticed even older Fords on the show, suggesting they may have come from the dealer's used car lot. When they didn't have enough cars, they'd get crew members to loan their personal cars, which explains the non-Fords that pop up from time to time like the '59 Chevy Impala that almost runs over Barney during a first season episode.

Oh yeah one more thing: with a few early exceptions, the license plate for the Mayberry Sheriff's Office Squad Car was always JL-327 even though it changed every year.

Even though this show was a blatant FORD showcase, I think that there must have been some car nuts involved with the production. An Iso as a background car? Gotta be a crew's personal car. The incomparable 275 GTB/4, a extremely rare and expensive car even then. A TR 4? A Fiat? A Jag? A Benz 190? But almost no backround cars that were not Fords, Mercs or Lincolns. Sure would like to know who was slipping in these rare and fun makes into the show. Help?

I know the show was sponsored by Ford, but I've always thought it's interesting how a small town like Mayberry was able to afford a brand new squad car every year.

Episode 1.06
There is what I think might be a 1950 Ford sedan, and it is referenced as "Barney's car".

The car is driven up to Andy's house by Barney, but the front end is partially hidden by a tree.
Later, at the very end of the episode, the car is parked in front of the courthouse
and Andy refers to it as "Barney's car".

It is a light colored 4-door. By the shape I am pretty sure it's a 49-50 Ford.
I don't think I see "FORD" script on the center of the hood, over the spinner, so my best guess is 1950 Ford.
It's not on screen for very long. The dialogue makes it sound like the car belongs to Barney.
Later in the series, Barney buys his first car. (A 1954 Ford Customline, Episode 3.27 "Barney's First Car")

That one is indeed a 1950, Mycroft. Note the push-button door handles in the final scene.

The motorcycle and sidecar used by Barney is a 1927 JD Harley Davidson owned by Paramount Studios in Hollywood, California.
