22 minute propaganda film presented by Dr Richard Beeching to explain his first controversial report which identified 2,363 stations and 5,000 miles of railway line for closure (= 55% of stations and 30% of route miles) and is generally regarded today as a fairly disastrous loss of rail network. But it makes its case within the parameters of its time and the brief he was given with a certain logic, even if the vision was only short-term where a longer perspective might have given a different outcome. So fascinating as a historical snapshot, although very dry content. Title film of British Transport Films Volume Four: Reshaping British Railways 2-DVD set. Can be seen here or here.
