![]() "Chelsea Food Products Ltd". CLL 817 - or CLE/CLF - behind the starting handle were late 1935 into early 36 London issues. The Vauxhall on right might be a crew car - lots of glimpses; also perhaps the Prefect on left. |

According to this: - Link to "en.m.wikipedia.org" you can deduce the model designation from the payload, number of axles and engine type. Anyone fancy a crack at it? The starting handles always amuse me. The thought of trying to swing a Gardner Six into life on a cold morning in February is enough to banish all romantic notions of becoming a "Knight of the Road", or a Silver Knight for that matter. -- Last edit: 2016-09-13 09:21:01 |

The cab (windscreen shape and headlights) looks more like the early 1940s than the 1930s to me and it could be GLL registration so could be 1942 I think (by enlarging the picture). If early 1940s it would have the AEC engine during wartime as specified by the Ministry of Production. Six-wheeler by the thumbnail, possibly 10 or 12 tons; a ten tonner would be Atkinson 1066A or 1266A for the twelve tonner. -- Last edit: 2016-09-13 17:32:22 |

Agree 6-wheeler onscreen - difficult to capture clearly. GLL also possible - July 42 to May 46 "allocated in blocks", so WW2 or early postwar - 817 suggests later so maybe 1945. Looks a big load so 12 ton ..... |

Atkinson used prefixes H, M and L (for heavy, medium and light duty frames), see comment here /vehicle.php?id=1096070#Comment2255184 Some searches for 1266 chassis in all three forms H1266, M1266 and L1266 appear to result in both M1266 and L1266 frames but not H! We could assign either M or L or leave as unspecified here. edit: 1266 is 1260 chassis with '6' Gardner engine therefore 'A' (AEC) is redundant. -- Last edit: 2017-12-21 21:32:06 |
