That's the trouble with Royces. Arrivistes like pop stars and drug dealers with no taste or style have always gone for them. Those of a certain age may recall a "psychedelic" Phantom V owned by somebody from a group called the "Beatles". You may note from elsewhere that ARRIVA Buses have failed yet again to meet their timetabled promise to send a bus. -- Last edit: 2015-11-05 21:35:54 |

Yeah - was it Mick Jagger or Keith Richards - I always get them mixed up ..... Not wanting to add to your misery this evening, but the photo reminded me of the revolting colour scheme on this new 1:43 Bentley Mk.VI from Oxford Diecasts - is it a known car and any explanation why this taste bypass occured?? |

@dsl: I might be wrong, but I wouldn't call it revolting. After all, it does not look that much different compared to Jfs's car... ![]() |

You are quite incorrect, my car is painted in the Bentley standard colours of Sand over Sable. It does not have a silly half vinyl roof, or a rear quarterlight blanked off with hardboard, and it does not have white tyres or drug dealers darkened glass. My car was painted in those colours in 1958, changing from Docker's Special Tan, (Docker's was a paint company) which was its colour when new, and which was replaced by Mason's Black in 1954, before its change to Sand over Sable. BTW my Mercedes is painted Mercedes 794 Pearl Beige, the second least popular colour for a Mercedes. It's just a bit lighter than the Sand on the Bentley. God help me if I should have to fall back on being forced by the dictates of fashion to have a white car. Certain car manufacturers allow customers to specify the colour of their new car, for a price premium. Some of us have taste, some of us have to fall back on to the dictates of fashion, (see above) the last resort of those with no personal style or taste. Last week I visited the factory of the Morgan Motor Company, and you may now have your new Morgan painted to match any bauble you happen to own, you could probably even have white tyres! I understand that there are even people who have to buy their cars second-hand, and accept whatever colour they are painted. -- Last edit: 2015-11-06 10:01:07 |

We are fully aware of that, it just seems fairly low upon the totem pole of general knowledge. |

well, maybe i missed the subtle humor, just that from my point of view it was like i was claiming that Wayne Gretzky was a huge rugby star.... ![]() -- Last edit: 2015-11-06 00:57:04 |

@John: Sorry about that, but you know I didn't mean it that serious as your personal Bentley looks much more beautiful than the Oxford Diecast Dsl had mentioned before. I shouldn't have teased you after Arriva has let you down again. |

Thank you. My personal Bentley is now a lot scruffier than it should be. I must produce a cash flow forecast for the work that needs to be done, and get on with it before I die! Do you like the painting? It was done by a very talented artist called Terry Silk, and was the second iteration, after he was not satisfied with his first result. -- Last edit: 2015-11-06 09:08:34 |

http://aranceles.org/arancel/135910/ MMB 385 and MMB 386 are owned by Bentley Drivers Club members, MMB 387 is not unless it is covered under the registration of its new country. The sequence would suggest that they may have been works demonstrators or such in their early lives. Quite a few Mk VIs and R-types were painted in shades of green, and there was a vogue for two-tone finishes that started in the early fifties and lasted into the sixties. The real car upon which the model is based may not have looked quite so over the top in full size, but I must say that, given the choice, I would have my car colours as Midnight blue over shell grey, but that's just me. -- Last edit: 2015-11-06 10:15:32 |

Silver Shadow II, and that is one ghasty paintjob. |

@John: The painting is very beautiful and accurate indeed. As far as the Silver Shadow on this page is concerned:I found something in the same mould here: Link to "www.curbsideclassic.com" |

My local off-licence delivers my crates of fizzy pop in this van. TrueScale Miniatures made him a nice 1:43 model. |

In 1988 I saw this car in a car museum in Vancouver. |
