It's a 1990 R129 SL. |

I do not know from where comes that name "500 SEC". It could be "500 SL" though. -- Last edit: 2007-02-02 21:28:56 |

It was a 1990 model year in the United States, introduced there in 1989 as well. |

Actually, doing some research and watching the movie, this is a 1993 500SL. Please correct it to reflect 1993 500SL. The movie was filmed in mid-1993 and the 500SL had all the features present in models introduced in September 1992. The 1990 model had a rectangular steering, that originated in the 1980 S-Class. The models introduced in late 1991 received the new W140 steering wheel and wheel design. The 1994 model renaming took effect from July 1993. No it's not. That's 1993 500SL, which has visible updates over the 1990 model(steering wheel, wheel spokes, mirror). |

From this angle, your link looks like the updated model launched in late 1991, as a 1992 N. American model. The 1993 model had a new automatic dimming mirror similar to the W140 and the new 600SL. Here we'd call them 1991(autumn 1991 launch, J-reg) and 1992 (September 1992 launch, K-reg) models. USA reads model years by season. If there were no interior scenes in Color of the Night, I wouldn't have known this was a 1993 model. -- Last edit: 2014-01-31 23:33:45 |
