The left-hand vehicle in the main picture appears to be Jeep-based. The Landy appears to have acquired the back of a Standard Vanguard pickup, or something similar. |

Its a Series 1 80" going by the angled back edge of the door, but the rear wheel is mounted much further back. that was my thinking until I checked further and found this one also listed against Quatermass II vehicle_242090-Land-Rover-107---Series-I.html. That is down as a 107", and the size looks right, but the doors are definitely from the earlier 80" as there are no external door handles. So, what I think we might have here is a unique vehicle based on the 80" Land Rover, but with a stretched chassis and Vanguard body to increase capacity. Bearing in mind the factory 107" was only introduced 3 years before and there had been requests for larger models since thier introduction in 1948, it is quite possible these conversions would have been done in the mid-late 50's when factroy 107" Land Rovers were still very expensive, and one of these might have been picked by the Quatermass team as it would accomodate the number of actors they needed and would have been much cheaper than a factory 107". Also, the genuine 107" always had a fixed cab with a separate rear body tub and therefore could not be used as a troop car in the same way the Quatermass Land Rover was. |
