1924 Bentley 3 litre Speed Model GO 4176, Chassis #488, maybe, but more work needed. Coachwork originally a Gurney Nutting Weymann saloon. This car is supposed to have been used in the 1951 film, Mr Drakes Duck, but some details do not match, not the least being the coachwork, but the history shown illustrates that it has been scrapped and rebuilt more than once. https://www.flickr.com/photos/45676495@N05/40331036455 http://www.vintagebentleys.org/carpages/_ch-488.php -- Last edit: 2021-04-17 00:08:37 |

No connection with Douglas Fairbanks I think, but later in the movie about the murder of Hollywood director William Desmond Taylor. The footage is re-used from the previous short movie 'Birth of Babylon' another silent film (1999). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cefNvPs-DBk ![]() It shows Charlotte Shelby (played by Alexis del Lago), who avoided prosecution after being suspected of involvement in the murder. The Bentley's condition would be as of 1999. -- Last edit: 2021-04-17 20:10:31 |

Despite the close resemblance, I don’t think that this is a genuine 3 litre Bentley. The front of the radiator seems too far forward, and the front dumb irons are not clearly visible. I wish to reserve judgment. |

I agree with Johnfromstaffs: Unlikely to be anything other than a later mockup |

Not a lot of companies producing Bentley replicas, I assume this must be American. Did you know that Ruger, yes, the American weapon company, actually tried their hand at one in the late 1960s? Although it was advertised, it doesn't seem to have been a production vehicle. Only two were built, both remaining in the collection of William Ruger, himself an avid car collector, until his death in 2002. https://cdn.motor1.com/images/mgl/8Mw2q/s1/top-10-replicas.jpg https://www.flickr.com/photos/autohistorian/37560920174 -- Last edit: 2021-04-20 21:35:00 |

Thank you Gamer, I did not know of that car, which looks quite decent, and they have made no attempt, seemingly, to pass it off as a Bentley, as the radiator would fool nobody. They do not mention the oily bits, it would be a reasonable assumption that an American power unit and transmission of suitable size were used. The subject picture, on closer attention, is more “studio mock-up” than engineered replica however. Robgeelen seems to be of the same opinion, he is a member of the Bentley Drivers Club and a correspondent in this database. |
