I remember seeing a Sprinter with Mercedes badges on the Cinema Vehicle Services (a Los Angeles picture car company) website and, yep, it's the same one:

Make is Dodge at that page...

Gag Halfrunt UK

But it has a Mercedes badge. Perhaps someone bought a Mercedes grille and badge and stuck them onto a Dodge Sprinter to make it an 'authentic' Benz. Or perhaps it's registered as a Dodge for legal or insurance reasons. (A Mercedes-Benz Sprinter is a strange foreign beast, not sold on the US market and possibly not street-legal, even though it's the same as a Dodge Sprinter.)

What about Freightliner Sprinter?

Tönz DE

2007-07-27 19:03

On the cinemavehicles page it seems to have Freightliner headlights, they aren't exactly in line with the grill. On the movie pictures it has the correct headlights of a Dodge or US-version Mercedes.

Cinema Vehicles used to have two Mercedes Sprinters in this yellow and white colour scheme. Perhaps one was a genuine Mercedes and the other was a Freightliner given Mercedes badges to serve as a double.

Apparently one can buy kits to make American Sprinters look like 'real' Mercedes ones.
Quote It is common for North American owners to convert their van to look like Mercedes Vans. Sites such as www.MercedesSprinterConversions.com offer large amount of conversion products.

I think we should call it a Dodge Sprinter; even if they changed the badges to Mercedes it's still a Dodge, isn't it?

CarChasesFanatic ES

2007-11-07 18:46

I has to be called Dodge Sprinter if only badges were changed over, changing a grill doesnt make it a new car...

I don't know why they would make it into a Mercedes though, I mean they're sold as Dodges here, so it would be more authentic if it were a Dodge, especially since it was a government truck in the movie.

Why 'rebadged as Mercedes-Benz' in the extra info?

CarChasesFanatic ES

2007-11-09 21:13

because it is rebadged as Mercedes so if a person from the outside comes to visit this page will know why it is listed as Dodge eventhough it has a big Mercedes logo on the front

Presumably so some wise guy doesn't say 'It's not a Dodge, it's a Mercedes!'

According to Dodge Sprinter sales: All Dodge Sprinters are manufactured in Germany. The passenger models are shipped fully assembled, (in most cases with Mercedes Badges), and sold at Dodge Sprinter dealerships. The Cargo versions are also manufactired in Germany, but completely dissambled, shipped to the US and reassembled at a Chrysler plant (with Dodge badges) so the final point of assembly says US. It looks like Mercedes and Dodge are trying to beat the tariffs and taxes, but make no mistake, you are getting a Mercedes either way. The badge swap kit is around $280.

So, in other words from Houndrunner it does indicates USA assembled.

Not all Dodge dealers are allowed to sell these Sprinters. The Dodge dealer I work at is not certified to sell or perform warranty work on these vans. Theoretically the dealership I work at could do non-warranty work on these vans.

In the US, the first generation was only available as a Freightliner or Dodge. The Mercedes version was available in Canada and Mexico. The US didn't get Mercedes-badged Sprinters until the second generation in 2010, after the corporate split with Chrysler.
