dsl ◊ 2022-05-09 19:10	Agree 1973 for other details as well (eg black wipers), but there's a fair bit of confusion out there. The wire wheels are wrong for any B after Oct 1969 facelift - they should be Rostyles; many 1970+ Bs have been re-wheeled, but the weapon of choice is usually Minilites or other alloys, as retro-fitting wires is - as I understand it - surprisingly complicated. The other dollop of confusion comes from the Universal Hobbies James Bond partwork 1:43 model, which clearly replicates the previous version Oct 69 to Sept 72 front grille which was black with shiny insets but for 1973-74 should look like this Looking at the clip itself isn't very clear what's actually present and at first glance I even wondered if the grille had been removed altogether. But I think it is a 73+ grille, matching other bits of visible detail (apart from the wires), although can understand UH's confusion for the model. The plate - as usual with HK numbers - is useless - much earlier than 1972 when BB xxxx started, possibly mid-60s.
Sunbar ◊ 2022-05-10 12:27	I think the wire wheels could be a better indication of model year. I agree that as a general rule retro-fitting wires would be surprisingly complicated. Changing the steering wheel and wiper arms or even swapping grilles would be far simpler to make an older car look new for the movie?
dsl ◊ 2022-05-14 00:20	A 1971 black grille with wires-instead-of-Rostyles has just popped up here and is probably a BL PR car. So maybe fitting wires is easier than usual narrative suggests?? Some other small details here match 71+ (and therefore 73+ as well) such as the black fill on the MG boot badge, and if the wheels issue is a red herring, everything else is fine for a 73+ with optional headrests.

On a tangent, the difference between the color in this film and the following Bond "The Spy Who Loved Me" is night and day, almost literally. Whatever the film used or lighting chosen, the colors after this film are much clearer and more vibrant.
