This car, and another (with complete front missing for film purposes) were used for many years in Z-Cars. There were supposedly two 'Z-Cars'; call signs were Z-Victor One, and Z-Victor Two, that patrolled as motorway/fast pursuit cars, as opposed to the role of the cars that eventually were to become Panda cars. These cars were the mainstay of the series, and it was rumoured that the series name, 'Z-Cars' was named after the Zephyrs that were originally used. Nb: For filming purposes, these cars were actually Daffodil Yellow, as this shows up better than white on the original b&w film stock! In the picture above, the actor nearing the front of the car, is Brian Blessed, playing PC Fancy Smith. The other actor (partly in the car, clutching the steering wheel) I believe to be Jeremy Kemp, as PC Steele. -- Last edit: 2010-09-18 15:47:37 |

Thats also a Ford press photo not a BBC still Ford got huge advertising from the show and where falling over themselves to supply cars the series,, which set them up for later TV cop shows like "Special Branch""The Sweeney" & "The Professionals" Its quite ironic that neither Brian Blessed or Jimmy Ellis (who played PC Bert Lynch) could actually drive at the time ![]() |
