2 part BBC drama shown in 1989 but disappeared afterwards - my copy is a VHS transfer which runs both parts together into a single film lasting 2hrs 11mins, and timings given on that basis with no split. Gently paced story of a retired bloke who suddenly decides to walk from Lands End to John O'Groats, plus the chaos this causes his extended family. Filming was nearly completed with Ray McAnally in the lead role

but he had a heart attack and died so they had to start all over again, this time with Joss Ackland

A lot of location filming en route - not just the Cornish sites listed on imdb - but sometimes mildly disappointing that big chunks of Britain get missed out, although probably understandable in the circumstances. An enjoyable film, a good story well written, and some very good actors and acting.

Lands End (as it was in 1989)

John O'Groats (as it was in 1989 - the hotel later fell derelict but has now been partly revived with strange accommodation pods. Plus the JoG foot passenger ferry to Orkney)

At this point both Lands End and JoG were both owned by Peter de Savary, but he went bust and sold them in 1991.

IIRC the Frying Scotsman was located on the A460 heading out of W'ton towards Cannock. Not exactly God's own country.
