With the same number plate as the Cadillac Fleetwood. ![]() Obviously they only had a few sets of New York plates and had to reuse them. |

I might be wrong but I think that this model wasn't even sold in the US! This movie was filmed in Canada... |

Yeah, it was rather blatantly filmed in BC (Vancouver, if I'm not mistaken). There's one scene where you can actually see mountains in the background. And you're correct that the Pony wasn't sold in the US (at least, accoring to Wikipedia). It's not the first time that one's popped up in an American movie though (/vehicle_10119-Hyundai-Pony-1988.html) |

It was called the Excel in the US I believe. |

No, that's a Hyundai Pony. The Excel/Pony you're refering to was the Pony in Europe, but the Excel in North America (and FWD, compared to the RWD Pony that was sold in Canada). |

Oh god lol Hecubus - my family n' I had one of those - good little car though. And you're right, after some checking online, the Hyundai Pony - the car we see in this image was only sold in Canada, although we did also later get the Excel which went on to be replaced by the Hyundai Accent. |

I always wanted one of these. I'd see them whenever the family would venture into Ontario years before I was old enough to drive and I always thought it would be cool to be the only person in the USA who owned one.I actually did see one or two with Michigan plates that somehow made its way over the border. |

Interesting how being introduced to Canada before the US, and rather hastily, they had no time to work out the proper pronounciation. "Hoonday" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CMZGPnFTuI0 Two years later they'd got it down: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=asybt7BS0Wc -- Last edit: 2025-07-14 18:59:35 |
