I never understood how it is possible to consider Sophia Loren beautiful.

Now, Tippi Hedren is something else... :D

Ask Carlo Ponti. (You'll need a medium to do this).

If that's beautiful: http://imagecache6.allposters.com/LRG/37/3708/W3ZAF00Z.jpg , what about that: http://www.flixya.com/files-photo/g/o/o/goodnow1941375.jpg ? (You recognize, of course, Monica Bellucci.)

There can be different types of beauty, no? :p Though I'm not a fan of S. Loren, IMO she looked more attractive later, when became a bit older.
I think Monica is much more pretty than Penelope, but the second one is less cold, and this way can be more feminine.

With such nose and mouth? I don't think so.

That's true.

She's rather ugly than feminine. Take Sophie Marceau, for instance: she's beautiful and not at all cold. ;)

The producers want make us believe even Barbra Streisand and Liza Minnelli are beautiful.

I dislike Penelope Cruz, but isn't ugly.

Let me explain: every great actor or actress is a myth, a legend. There is this expression: x is a living legend. But not all deserve this name. There are artificial legends, made by the producers.

It's totally subjective. Surely, it is perfectly normal that not everybody thinks the same women are attractive? It's a world of opinions, and not facts or subjective measures. Nobody is wrong, IMO. It's down to personal taste.

I understand, but they are many italian actresses from that period who are really beautiful. For instance Gina Lollobrigida (born 1927, Loren is born 1934) and Lucia Bose (born 1931).

Lucia Bose:

Lucia is, today, practicly unknown. Why? Because she never had Sophia Loren's publicity.

And this are only two examples.

Maybe we should put such thing as acting capabilities in to consideration?

No. And is the same thing with the actors, that's what I'm saying. So here we agree. ;)

Well, as for Penelopa Cruz, here is my opinion: she isn't attractive, lacks any charisma and completely talentless. Period.

Of course, but:

1. I saw them all in the movies and I don't think Sophia Loren is more talented than Gina Lollobrigida, Lucia Bose or other.

2. About Loren, in the 60s, was said is the most beautiful woman in the world. So she was known in principal for her "beauty", not for her talent.
