C'est une Chevrolet de 1936. Pour le modèle, c'est plus difficile : soit standard soit une "Master". |

Yes, it's a 1936 Chevrolet Master. There were two of these cars used on the film, one, seen here, was restored to be a duplicate of mine so that mine wouldn't get smashed in the following scene. The car that DiCaprio drives in the scenes leading up to this is mine. The car has appeared in countless movies and TV, beginning with "The Two Jakes" in 1988. Until recently, this car was my most popular rental. |

A bit more history on the car: My father purchased the car in 1967 at a church sale -- he paid $450. Amazingly, the car has less than 30,000 original miles. At the time I first started using it in movies, it was painted black. In the film "The Phantom" (I think around 1996) the car was damaged during a stunt where the main character jumped onto the roof. The film company paid for the repair, and I returned the car to the green livery that it wore when my father first bought it. As for the business of car rental -- I had a very good year in 2004, but the business has "crashed" in the last two years -- at least for vintage movie cars. Too many companies are using computer generated images to replace the actual cars. In the film "Seabiscuit", there is a shot of a parking lot with several of my cars in the front row. All of the cars in the rows behind are computer generated -- several hundered of them. So, I wouldn't recommend moving to Hollywood for the movie car business right now! |
