Sandie, are you still sticking with the Gazelle idea?

Yes, but looking into the different builders. There has to be some logic (years built, details etc) to tell the different makers apart.

After some searching, it's complicated. First problem is that Gazelle is pretty much a general term for these not very accurate SSK replicas. Second is that of the three Gazelle builders they all seemed to start independently then ended up together. First, CMC bought out Tiffany* (don't have the date for this) then in 1983 CMC bought Fiberfab. There wasn't much difference between a Fibrefab or CMC from what I can find (I'm also not convinced that Fiberfab named their's Gazelle, I found a couple of ads saying it was just 'SSK').

The Tiffany was quite different: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?p=7246973 it was usually a two seater, it had a long deck at the back (cf: http://funnybug.canney.net/webbugs/kitcars/gazelle/gzl014/index.html ) and there were details like no running boards, simpler features etc.

The subject car here has some of the early Gazelle/Tiffany features like the extended rear deck and only two seats but also has wraparound rear bumpers and full running boards which the initial check sheet suggests a Tiffany wouldn't have. But that initial list also includes no doors when later on in that thread someone posts their Tiffany Gazelle which has doors... So I think this one is a Tiffany. Comments/rebuttal?

Some CMC/Fiberfab pictures here:

* Yes, this is the same Tiffany as the Mercury Cougar-based things we have: /vehicles_make-Tiffany_model-Classic+Coupe.html (these were built by CMC after they bought Tiffany).
