All I have to do is look at these photos and laugh at how absurd this show was that I watched religiously on Saturday nights circa 1980. Apart from wrecking a nice looking '70 LeSabre, how ridiculous that it got airborne in the first place, alongside an unidentified green car. And of course it goes right through the top of a tractor trailer that just happens to be in the way, and lands on a camper. All at about 30 mph. Brakes, especially on a Buick, were not THAT bad! But yeah, I watched it!!! These days, it would all be covered by an LAPD, LA County Sheriff or CHP chopper footage. |

As the show progressed, the accidents became more and more ridiculous. Season 1 and most of Season 2 had more realistic crashes, then they decided to amp up the thrill level. Season 5 was probably the most blatant. The characters became more cartoon-ish as well. Was there any fad that Ponch and Jon were not into and excelled at? |

That probably explains why I tuned in until 1979 and possible 1980, then didn't bother. I didn't even recall that Larry Wilcox left the show until I watched opening credits from a later episode with someone else. |
