This was a reenactment of the murders of Mafia Antipool Detective Antonino "Ninni" Cassarà and his escort officer, Roberto Antiochia who was shot by Mafia hitmen, Giuseppe Greco, Antonino Madonia and Giuseppe Giacomo Gambino outside Cassarà's family's home at Viale della Croce Rossa 81 in Palermo on the afternoon of the 6th August 1985. In the real murders, the officers were in Alfa Romeo Alfetta the gunmen opened fire with AK47s and submachine guns from first floor windows of an apartment next door to Cassarà's family's apartment. Officer Antiochia was hit first as he went open the door for Cassarà, falling into the entry way of the home, dying also immediately while Cassarà was hit also was well, dying in his wife's arms in the hallway of the home. A second escort officer, Natale Mondo who was driving the Alfetta managed to escape the ambush by taking cover under the vehicle. Officer Mondo himself would later die in another ambush on the 14th January 1988. |
