Unless repainted at some point the silver metallic paint (colour code 130) was introduced in 1977 when Volvo celebrated it's 50th anniversary as a car manufacturer, with 244 DL 1927-1977 http://www.classicvolvo.com/subs/carsfolder/volvo244_77/volvo2441977.htm and 262 C. However 1978 is a more likely year as Volvo during that year introduced colour code 130 on a grander scale as a "that year paint code" http://www.flickr.com/photos/71144572@N00/2129130058 . That is, most likely, a 1978 Volvo 244 DL or GL. Not likely 242 as that was a rare model, not 260's as it had different, wider, rear lights and for sure not 140's as they stopped being made in 1974, and not 1979+ it looks completely different.
