The YA (and subsequent YB) series, introduced in 2000, are reserved for imported 'youngtimers' which were first registered abroad between 1973 and 1978. Before 2000, those vehicles got a registration of the current series for new cars. The DE series, afaik introduced in the eighties, is meant for classic cars built before 1973 and was followed by DH, DL, DR, AE, AH, AL and AR. There's also a BE series for classic commercial vehicles and trucks and another one for motorcycles I think, but I don't know which.
