 I think RX2 had 4 round lights - as here - and 616 2 rectangular.

 Im 100% sure (my aunt had one) that Mazda 616 could be delivered with 4 round ligths (and of course also with 2 rektangular).

 We could call this Capella to get rid of the unknown tag. A later thought from the above RX2/616 lighting uncertainty - is it true that 2 rectangular lights can only be a 616, whatever the country?

 This is an RX2 - the 616 was not sold here, although I have seen the odd one or two. As well you can see the small RE badge left of centre of the grille. Note the Corolla SR coupe in the centre of the pic which has the fender mirrors signifying it is most likely fully imported from Japan. 1986 was about the beginning of imports of second hand cars from Japan. This might be one of those, but there were also small number of odd JDM models imported by individual dealers when they were able to obtain the necessary licence.

 Those Mazda rotaries (both RX2 and RX3 and lesser numbers of RX4s) were very popular here for a short time, but with the oil price hikes in the 1970s their fuel use told against them, plus some people could not put up with frequent seal replacements. There were certainly the quickest small car around in their day.
