500? This one is a pre 1980 Model (Rims and Headrests), the 500 SL started in 1980, '74-'80 the 450SL had the biggest engine... |

Did somebody make the badge engineering? Alike "M" badge on BMW 316i's trunk? |

I think the same as stu - the car should be too old for being a 500 SL. Unfortunately neither the German or the English Wikipedia-articles about the R107 say anything about facelift-details, but weren't these full-chrome-door handles used only in the 70ies and were replaced by plastic handles in a chrome-holder? AFAIK this was years before the big 1986+ facelift You also can identify early R107's by the panels at the door's bottom. These were changed later on, too. -- Last edit: 2010-12-14 19:39:46 |

I can't add much useful as my data only goes up to 1981 and is UK. The only changes noted until 1980 are for 350SL and 450SL with new interior colours in July 75, new carpets and wood on console Oct 77 and tinted glass standard from Jan 78. Both stopped early 1980, replaced by 280/380/500SL from Oct 80. Whatever this one is, it has tinted screen and mirrors (1st thumb) so is 1978 or newer. |
