Dodge Diplomat or Plymouth Grand Fury police interceptor. they both seem to have the same grille layout. |

These weren't known as "police interceptors." |

Indiana State Police 1986 Dodge Diplomat. 1986 Was the last year Midwestern Law Enforcement agencies used Mars Lights on their cars. (except Wisconsin) -- Last edit: 2007-05-31 15:21:47 |

Not that I think it should even matter, but it's representing a Wisconsin State Patrol car. Whether it's authentic or not, I don't know. Also, your comment about the Mars Lightbars seems very unfounded. How are you really supposed to know when EVERY SINGLE law enforcement agency in the Midwest stopped using this type of lightbar? |

Well, Mars Lights were last used in 1986 with the last ones going to the Chicago Police. And the car, I don't think it's authentic. I thought Indiana State P.D. because it looks like their graphics, but slightly different. |

In that case, that was the last year the lightbar was PRODUCED, but I am sure that many smaller police/sheriff's departments continued to use this type of lighbar well into the 90's. |

Yeah. A small town north of Kenosha, Wisconsin still uses mars lights to this day. |

if you're right than that is a pretty big OOPS in the film because IIRC they were driving from New York City to Chicago. it looks like they went to kansas and then drove to chicago but they still would not have driven through wisconsin -- Last edit: 2009-06-15 01:02:34 |

As I stated before, it's more likely than not a fake. And it's a 1981+ model. -- Last edit: 2009-07-14 21:07:13 |

Actually, they were FLYING from New York to Chicago, but O'Hare closed, so they landed in Wichita,KS. BY the time Neal and Del were driving, it was from St. Louis to Chicago. True, they would not be driving through Wisconsin, however, the scene was cut short: Michael McKean was supposed to reveal to them that they overshot Chicago by 100 miles, that's why they were in Wisconsin. |

Best car of the movie. |

The reason it resembles a Wisconsin state patrol car is because in the original uncut scene the trooper was supposed to inform neal and dell that they had over shot Chicago by about a hundred miles which would have put them just north of Milwaukee. Which would explain the dodge being a WI state patrol car. |
