Superman and Superman II were mostly filmed in the UK, so some of the "New York taxis" were whatever US cars the filmmakers could round up, paint yellow, and hope that people wouldn't be able to tell the difference. But like any of us "car guys", that is a huge mistake! In the original Superman (1978), Clark Kent crosses the street and a Chevelle made up as a taxi hits him, causing massive damage to the middle of the front end. I wouldn't be surprised if this is the same car left in the props department considering the NY-style roof advertising sign.
