These are the only cabs in Chicago that come with this little ditty. |

That's a LWB is it not ? |

No, it's a regular wheelbase, though I believe if this is an authentic Chicago cab than it's the real deal [P72] taxi model |

"Authentic Chicago cabs" don't have to be [P72] models. Don't forget that most of them are old police cars. |

This is a LWB model formally with the NYC Taxi and Limousine Commission. Due to the stupid 6-8 year old law here, many of these get sold off everywhere, including Chicago. Just stare at the rear door long enough and you can see the extension. |

While I agree with you that this most likely was a former NYC taxi, there is also a possibility that it could have come from somewhere else as some LWB's were sold to other customers. I've even seen LWB's twice out here in Los Angeles in the last few years, and both were 2003-2004 models. |

To be honest, I never heard of these being sold to other operators brand new but aftermarket (while not saying this is possible). |

There must have been a few here and there. I know for a fact that the US Marshal's Service operates/operated a few. Which makes a lot of sense given their prisoner transport role. Other LE agencies purchased them as well in limited numbers. |

And Access-A-Ride here in the city. But the city brought those, so those go right in with the NYCTLC order. |
