..Strange it has a 401 badge on the side.? (was this a model number.? ..as the engine was 400ci or 440ci.?) -- Last edit: 2006-01-07 18:27:45 |

Not a Plymouth, it's a 1972 AMC Matador. |

AMC Matadors had a 401 CID engine, but was only available with the police package. Was about 1 sec slower and 20 mpg slower than today's Hemi Charger (which by the way is a distant descendent of the Matador....) This always gets wiped out by the 16 yr old kid killer rabbit guarding the Wikipedia page of AMC Matador and Eagle Premier, but the Premier was AMC's next mid/large car. It sold like, well, french cars. Chrysler took the wreckage and created the ..... all-new LH Intrepid, Vision and Concord if you didn't notice that the layout and suspension bits were all clean-sheet redesigns based on the Premier, and the factory and R&D manager were all from AMC. The LX Charger is the succesor to those cars, so it's got more in common with the Matador than the Adam-12 Sattelite or Belvedere. |
