For these the DRL were in some markets high beam on a reduced voltage, while other markets, like our, used the low beam with the light switch 'on' (so they follow the ignition switch, mandatory use came later). DRL for 96 were later incorporated in the larger side lamp units. What you see here is the side light/parking light with 5 watt bulbs (they wouldn't handle the heat from 21 watt bulbs anyway)
