Not sure how long since those 2 lonely entries posted, but as series several months old, seems ripe for a full posting.

Fact-based 6-part drama series on the Brinks-Mat bullion robbery (£26m) from Heathrow in Nov 83 - not so much about the robbery itself, more the aftermath to successfully dispose of the gold and the police operation to capture the robbers and unravel where the money went. A good story well reconstructed, sharp script and acting. One overdone cliche - every smoker chain-smoked furiously in clouds of smoke - no-one smoked normally at a relaxed pace.

Filmed in London mostly - some foreign scenes supposedly including Zurich, Leichenstein, Sierra Leone, France Cote d'Azur, Spain and Tenerife but I think everything in hot places was Spain, with the "Sierra Leone" Land Rovers looking suspiciously Santana-ish.

Lots of period cars, and not selected from the usual sources for recent 80s things. Onscreen time frame Nov 83 onwards thru 84 for later episodes, after which it gets a bit vague as real events continued for several years. Which causes problems for some cars used. Imdb notes one goof "The Ford Granada seen in the series was not introduced until 1985, and a Ford Orion (Mark 2) seen in the background wasn't introduced until 1986 - both several years after when the series is set." and there are a few others; this means several fake plates used with older prefixes, but they don't get it right as some prefixes including fakes are still too new for 83-84. Also a couple of cars recur in different roles as the eps unroll, with different plates each time they pop up.

Reject - ep1 BMW 5 - only view

S2 now done - another 6 eps. Timeline very vague - captions only say "a few years later" and there's one ref to the dawn of the 1990s, so I think it's fairly elastic.

Lots of claimed locations - British Virgin Islands, Costa Rica, mainland Spain, Isle of Man etc are fake - it's just Englandshire and Tenerife.

Which means there's floods of fake plates, some of which are appallingly badly done

Looks as if they had fun in Tenerife sourcing lots of interesting cars - lots of local clubs involved. One unfortunate reject from ep 2.05

- I think it's Alfa Montreal, so surprising this is the only glimpse

Planes for impdb:

- Englandshire

- Isle of Man - stock shot(?) used twice

- "British Virgin Isles" = Spain

^ Not really worth it. No chance of matching to any specific examples we might have or a definite ID.

My thoughts exactly. A very frustrating second season because of that vague timeline. In ep. 2, mention is made of the USSR still existing, even though some post-1991 cars can be seen. Computers also seem to be all over the place, timewise.

Note the first generation Honda Civic driving past an Opel Calibra in "Costa Rica". What year is that supposed to be?
