I can’t speak Russian at all, so am in no position to criticise. However, I have lived in England since 1948, so I know what it was like here. A monopolistic telephone company being only one facet of our existence, it took months to get a phone line, and all calls had to go through the operator, there was no dialling in our small town. We were 749, and my mate was 91, to talk I just asked the operator to connect me to 91. |
