I believe it's a big Morris from the mid to latter part of the 30's, but I'm not qualified to tell what model. Perhaps they all were commonly known as "Big Six", but there were Sixteen, Eighteen, Twenty-One and Twenty-Five https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Morris_Big_Six http://www.autogallery.org.ru/k/mc/35morrisBig6_Bayuk.jpg http://www.autogallery.org.ru/k/mc/35morris6a_V.jpg . Here's a Morris 18/6 https://www.flickr.com/photos/pete_edgeler/26347157976 . |

Could it also be a Wolseley? I think more likely a mid size four cylinder model. |

I ruled out Wolseley when I did the research, but I might be wrong. I found that the Wolseleys had a different body pressing, below the side windows, that stands out somewhat, and that their ventilation on the side of the grille looked different http://www.autogallery.org.ru/k/w/wol18_85HP_Jan.jpg . Not all Wolseleys, that I've found, have had that pressing, but non had had similar ventilation as the featured car. I think I still believe this is a big Morris. |

I have not commented because there are some contradictions in the car in the image. The headlights appear to be fully plated, indicating Wolseley rather than Morris which had body coloured paint on the bowl shaped part, except for the Special Coupé models. The bonnet louvres, however, look to be Morris not Wolseley. The Morris Sixteen and Twenty One were deleted in autumn 1936, the 21/25 were 4.5 inches longer in Wheelbase than the 16/18, but this is difficult to scale on the subject picture. If pushed, I would nominate the Morris Eighteen, or possibly the Twenty Five. It is not a Fourteen, which had no boot bustle. -- Last edit: 2018-03-04 08:07:11 |
