Looks like a Custom Peterbilt 359 because of the classic sleeper and the headlights are round not square so please look at the screenshot above and look closer and you will see what i mean.

flyboy, its a 379. 359 had either a small luberfiner (cylinder type thing) on the drivers side, or a large regular sized air cleaner with a hose coming out of the front and going into the side of the hood.

also there are various differences in the shape/size of the cab.

those style headlights are real common accessories fo a 379, and are called "double rounds"

1994?

The truck is known to be a 1980’s generation, 379

Edmunds did an overview of the vehicles used in the film (including this one) and also stated that the truck was portrayed by a pair of mid-‘80s’ Peterbilts …
See the Edmunds video, via link below:

From what I can recall, he was banned quite a while back. Either way, we can remove 1994 from the year/year range.

Heres your answer to Optimus Prime. For a fact I drove a 1985 Petebilt 359 just like Optimus Prime. A 379 Peterbilt has rectrangel head lights with the turn signals on the end of the head lights!!! I drove this truck, for a year and a half!!! The front bupper is what is know as a 24" west coast bupper!!! The truck has a 63" sleeper!!!

I found a listing for a 1986 model 379, and there are even scale models of 1986 model 379 trucks. Perhaps it first débuted for the 1986 model year ...

The Premier Car Carrier of the 1980's
The 1980's were a wild ride for car carrier companies. The Motor Carrier Act of 1980 opened up shippers and routes to all comers bringing many more companies, some as small as 1 man/1 truck, into the business. The Surface Transportation Act of 1982 increased the size and weight allowed at the cost of higher taxes. Most importantly, foreign car makers like Volkswagen and Nissan opened manufacturing plants in the U.S., greatly expanding the carrier business especially in the South. Peterbilt developed the Model 379 in the mid-1980's and today it still defines classic long-nose conventional styling. It was available with a wide range of suspensions, making it the most desirable car carrier of its time.

People do make mistakes, but I can guarantee that truck is 1994. My dad works on those trucks every day of the week. If he could see that truck, he could prolly tell you everything that's right, wrong, or custom to that truck. *Sigh* Primus, that truck sure is a beaut. Can ah have one?? ^v^

Well, you can't really tell what model year the truck was built in because it was heavily modded for the movie.
I have seen some truck drivers put double round headlights onto their trucks as a decorative detail.
plus the sleeper cab can also be custom for that matter. We just don't know. Also the grille is custom to fit the AUTOBOT emblem on it. It might be a 1988, it might not. :/

4x4 23 the link you posted says replica. The bumper is radius cut to contour tire, not like the square end bumper in movie. It's missing the generator step boxes between fuel tank and rear fender. Not to mention the Autobots emblem. The truck is very custom but is a 379 for sure. It has the retro "Double Rounds" like a 359 and every other truck made back then. Double J drop brackets and turn signal/fender bars. Year model remains a mystery without seeing interior. It is pre 04 due to the full chrome door handles, vent window, and door mounted mirrors.

Autobot leader Optimus Prime's alternate mode in the 2007 Transformers film is a 1997 Peterbilt Model-379 Extended Hood truck. Three modified 379s appeared in the 2007 live-action film "Transformers" as Autobot-leader Optimus Prime's vehicle/disguise mode. There was much controversy over this in the Transformers fan community because Optimus Prime is almost always portrayed in the various cartoon series as a flat-nose cabover semi-trailer truck (or later as a fire engine); his movie incarnation would be the second with an extended nose conventional cab (following his role in 2002-03's Transformers: Armada). The filmmakers have said that, ignoring the fan-termed "mass shifting" associated with the series, Optimus's final official height of 28ft (almost 10m) in robot mode would not have been possible to allow for all of the mechanics of the CGI model if they had gone with a cab-over, which would have dropped him
instead to a smaller 20ft (almost 7m).

True, But I believe that Optimus Prime was origannaly a cabover and I tend to prefer staying with the originals. And if it's mass they want then they should check out "Freightliner RV of the future". Anyways just sharing.

From the engine sounds from several videos on YouTube, it has a Caterpillar 3406B or 3406C.. which is why I'd put the year range to 1987-1996.

I will put the rumors to bed of what year this truck is, The Truck is a 1992, All the links have been wrong, including the one Neptune gave for Edmunds, Here's a link that is advertised for the official screen used truck, which will be available to buy at the Barrett Jackson Auction on the up coming January 23rd, Here's the link

According to Wikipedia, 3 modified trucks were used. If accurate, the three of them probably don't share the same model year, and nothing can help us to see if the one seen in the main picture of this page is the 1992 model...

The trucks were built by United Truck Center in CA. I do have pics from the dealer's site, but they're not on my phone and they have since took it down. Will post when I can upload them.
The auction for the 1992 closed with NASCAR team owner Rick Hendrick as the buyer.
