US GTI was introduced for 1995 and only as a 16V. Regular GTI followed a year later. Really strange story: Canada had the III GTI from the start, and they copied this step when the GTI hit the US. So they had the 8V for 1993-94, dropped it for 95 leaving only the 16V, and brought back the 8V alongside the 16V for 1996... |
