Hi andrepa, check out this - http://www.llanellich.org.uk/Files/the-stepney-spare-wheel.html - which explains the origin of stepney wheels. How the Indians came to adopt that as a word for side mounted spares I don't know. |

Not only the Indians (and SouthWalians). I first encountered stepney on Malta (in connection with a rented Hillman Minx which didn't have one). |
