@rjluna2: The British traffic lights were repainted yellow to look like American lights.

The pedestrian lights were replaced with American style "Don't Walk/Walk" lights:

Hmm... The high mount traffic signal lights pole seems comes from USA, but the low mount traffic signal lights seems to be UK version.

Anyway, my comments at Traffic Lights in Internet Movie Car Database.

Yes, the high mount one was installed for the film. We don't have traffic lights hanging over the road like that.

I wonder how it is easier to film that in UK with imported US vehicles rather than just film that in any north-American city :wow:

If this is a UK-based production, it's probably much cheaper then flying a film crew to the US and doing it there. The biggest giveaway I've spotted here is the No Left Turn roadsign in the background.

Location: Digitally edited version of George Square? The shop fronts seemed to have been altered (I guess there are no branches of Greggs in Philadelphia) but it sure looks like it to me.

I've had a meeting in the building just the other side of the truck (though that too has been digitally edited).

@Sandie: Yes, and there are dozens of photos of the filming on Flickr: http://www.flickr.com/groups/1763179@N23/

I believe the original plan was to actually film in Philadelphia but the plan was scratched due to concerns that the Pennsylvania film tax credit was going to be axed. A lot of stunts being required may have also been a reason.

On another note, the street signs appear to say "Broad Street" and "John F Kennedy Road" - the real life intersection of those two streets in Philadelphia is completely different in appearance.

That doesn't look anything like the US. The stoplights are wrong and the architecture just doesn't look right.

I also see two 2002 Ford Explorers, a Chevy Cavalier (made up as a taxi), three Crown Vics, a Chevy Corsica, a Volvo S60, and 2000 Ford Taurus.

I beg to differ, you'll find plenty of areas in Philadelphia, Boston, Wilmington (Delaware), Hartford, and Portland (Maine) that look like that.

Some of the older American cities (like Philadelphia and Boston) have British-style architecture, for obvious reasons. If anything, I'd say the roads are too narrow to be Philadelphia; doesn't the U.K. have narrower streets than the USA due to its smaller size?

The only big city I've been to is Pittsburgh (very often, actually) and I live in a small town. I've just never seen anything around where I live that looks like that. And the big thing that got me was the traffic lights. Are they British ones, with the green light on the bottom being bigger than the other two? Maybe rjluna knows.

The traffic lights on gantries hanging over the road were installed by the film crew. The rest are real British light repainted yellow, with the pedestrian lights replaced with American ones.

The garbage truck crashed into a Freightliner box truck and destroyed the box on it's back, even though the box truck is not listed here there is a photo of it after the shootings: flickr.com/photos/68559970@N05/6318840174/in/pool-1763179@N23/
