No, it's a better equipped Bus or Station Wagen (or how it was named in Thailand). It has a tone-tone paint and even chrome trims around, features, the more basic Transporter never had. With the chrome side trim it's even the "L", the luxoury version of the Bus. The trims are directly under the windows, so it's an early T2b, 1973+. Sometimes later (maybe 1977, I don't know) the trims were mounted lower, on the middle of the side panels.

One question as last: where were the T2 for the Thai-market assembled? Germany? Australia? Or locally, as the 181 THING?

According to Wikipedia, this is the list of assembly sites for this generation:

Hanover, Germany
Emden, Germany
General Pacheco, Argentina
São Bernardo do Campo, Brazil
Puebla, Puebla, Mexico

If I recall properly, Mexican built ones were only for Mexico, US and Canada, and German ones were primarily for European markets, and I think Brazilian ones were only sold in South America. Not 100% sure, but I wouldn't be surprised.

Didn't these [Typ 2 / T2] ever build in Australia as well?

There was an Australian assembly-line, too, and a South African one also. About a T2-production in Emden I cannot find infos right now, but this is mainly the Passat-factory. If they made some T2 there, it was only a handfull.

I don't believe so. The only other countries any generation of Typ 2 were built in were South Africa (T3), Poland (T4 to present), and Indonesia (also T4 to present), that also according to Wikipedia.

Oh, there WAS an Australian line? Interesting...

Yes, we have some listed here: /vehicles.php?resultsStyle=asImages&yearFrom=&yearTo=&makeMatch=2&make=volkswagen&modelMatch=1&model=&modelInclModel=on&modelInclChassis=on&origin=&madein=AU&madefor=&role=

Somewhere there someone wrote something about the VW-history in Down Under. Except the Typ1, Typ2 and Typ3 they also built the Golf I. A K 70-fellow in New Zealand had owned one.
