nzcarnerd ◊ 2010-11-21 18:55	The chassis looks to be the common 2 1/2 ton model, of which they built many thousands during the war years for the military. I guess in that early postwar era, when someone wanted a special purpose van the more appropriate lighter chassis wasn't available and an ex-military truck could be had cheaply. So it's certainly and more simply a 1½-ton or a (new for 1946-47) 2-ton chassis + cowl + windshield (more or less a chassis-cab) with a non-factory body, all the more if it's an armored truck. Due to the dual rear wheels and what seems to be the small 134½"/3.42 m wheelbase, it could be a 1½-ton Special (2-ton truck downgraded to 1½-ton specs. 6112S model code) or a 2-ton (6112 code) model: ...or a 1½-ton model (code 4112) with the optional dual rear wheels: (Click...) A genuine 1946+ 1½-ton panel would have A different body: (All pictures are excerpts from the 1946 Chevrolet truck data book for Chevrolet salesmen) 1946-47 1½-ton models were "downgraded" to medium-duty trucks by Chevrolet, while the 1½-ton Special and the 2-ton models became the new heavy-duty trucks.
