Always one vehicle left unknown. I'm thinking this might be something Japanese...? |

Bumping. Can anyone deduce what this thing is? |

Whatever it is, it's not in its default state, the only original thing may be the chassis, the whole bodywork appears to be custom made by an armoring company. |

Whatever it has, it has sealed beam headlights fitted in... |

Long time coming and a heck of a lot of digging, but it looks to be based on a 1964 Toyopet Microbus! https://ameblo.jp/porsche356a911s/entry-12072421877.html Given that the face, mouldng around the sides to the rear, and tail lights all match up with the Microbus I wonder if it's not factory issue? From the link it's clear that earlier generations of the Toyopet Bus were based on the Toyopet Route Truck/Van. This could be a continuation of the theme...although I can find no evidence of this |

Who suddenly made this made for movie? We have no proof that it is. |

So, got the date slightly wrong. It's a 1962 Toyopet RK160B, clearly based on the Microbus per the picture attached (see top left) https://rarebooksjapan.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/2120__07.jpg Was it made for the movie? No. Tomica Toys have a news van in their model range (identified as an Isuzu of a similar vintage https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/NyoAAOSwQNJkR4ld/s-l1600.jpg ) so we know that Japanese news networks were commissioning dedicated vehicles, and were recognisable enough to be made into toys. It's probable then that this is a coachbuilt special based on the Microbus, that likely had come to the end of its working life before being one final hurrah acting as the GNT News Van. |
