According to my book 1947 was the first year that whitewall tyres became available. There were also minor changes of door handle design and of tailights. Of course this is a restored car so that isn't really a clue. I don't think we can see enough of this car to be sure which year and model it is. |

This one looks to be the longer 127.5 inch wheelbase of the 8 cylinder models ,a Saratoga or a New Yorker. Because of material shortages most 1946 and 1947 Chryslers were equipped with blackwalls in addition to white plastic disc rims that tended to warp in hot weather.The chromed wheel dics were introduced by the factory in 1948 when the whitewalls had become available again. |

Can be anything from a '46 to an early '49. Yes, this carryover body that was brought back after the war actually was briefly registered as a first series 1949, as were the other Chrysler products. Soon thereafter, however, the now familiar new postwar designs were released, as '49s. Pilou, the restorer of the car could have put the chrome discs on a '46 or '47, purely for aesthetic reasons. |
