That is probably because they had to replace the panels later on in the episode, so that was from a different car again.

Fun Fact: James May wrote an article on this Mercedes for the Telegraph. He said it was an 1985, he took it apart, and it didn't have its original gearbox!

It is a 230E, but has the 200 after putting on several Mercedes' parts, after he had stripped down the car to cross successfully the Makgadikgadi pan (parts were easy to find because Mercedes is popular in Africa).
