Ingo ◊ 2011-11-25 22:09	Despite the marginal fact, that it can be from the mid-70ies (which wouldn't make the destroying any better) it's to admit, that this sample was a wreck before it was destroyed. It has a paintbrush varnish and had, if you look for details, some accidents in its previous life. Not to forget the fact, that old trucks and buses are problematic to keep and restore (problem no.1 is the space). So trucks like this, in this age and this condition, were scrapped still today. Also because they are too worthless for the export to Africa or Middle Asia. Sure, these old Mercedes-engines are legendary for their durability - but the export-dealers are already focussed on more modern trucks. @Non Europeans: in Central Europe you normally cannot see any truck or bus on junkyards over here. Absolutely everything went into the export.

Ingo ◊ 2011-11-25 22:56	Sure it sucks. It makes the whole Cobra11-bullshit not better. The only thing, you can grant the makers, is, that they don't destroy rare, collectibles. Ecxept the free gifts from car companies (BMW, Toyota for example) they took sometimes rare cars, but always cars, whih are cheap over here. Which - this is to admit, too- are not popular for fans and collectors, so the sellers have problems to get rid of them. Today, when my boss went to a meeting outside, he let his car-keyes in the office. I've sent him a SMS "Thanks for the keys. No we will play Cobra11" He has a VW Tiguan, date of first registration 14.November 2011

Sandie ◊ 2011-11-26 00:03	The bumper and headlights both make it look like the truck has been in a previous accident. The bumper is half crushed already in the main image and the headlights seem to be squint as if the front has been badly repaired.

More details: http://www.imagebam.com/image/002a53161207296 The bumper was dented before, even before they smeared the black colour on it (or have they even covered spaces for headlights with tape before??). Do you see, how crooked the headlights are sitting? The whole front panel seems to be re-modelled with surfacer, te plastic panels under the indicators are missing ... enough details to classify it correctly as a wreck - before the destroying.

Ingo ◊ 2011-11-26 00:20	This is the difference to Germany: here we have our TÜV-inspections (every two years, buses and rental cars every year), which are strict, sometimes even annoying picky. Just because of that, it's impossible to dive a wreck here. The cops are checking the technical condition of a vehicle, too. Annother reason, why old cars and trucks, especially those without a catalysator or soot-filter, but ehich are too young or to rotten to be a classic (it's an extra TÜV-inspection to get the historic registration) are disappearing, are the -indeed often idiotic- pollution-regultions ( http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Umweltzone#Umweltzone ). If I would still have my Omega DTi, I wouldn't be allowed to drive into the whole Ruhr- and Rhine-area after the 1.1.2012. Already forbidden since two years was entering Berin, Hannover, Köln and other towns.

Our guide has told us, that this was the reason, why the most really old Chilean cars have disappeared since the inspections were introduced. So it was a real surprising sight, to spot this marvellous precious item in daily use: Maybe the mainland rules doesn't count for the outer district of Valparaiso: Rapa Nui

At truck- and commercial-vehicle-checks in Germany, averaging at 60-80% of the checked vheicles something is wrong. And not, if many people are saysing, at trucks from Eastern Europe or the Balkan. Nono, local trucks -and the drivers- aren't much better. And our Autobahnen are overfilled with trucks. About the half of them are only passing the country. Have a look on an Europe-map and you will see, why. Horrible accidents, caused by truck-drivers, are very common in Germany. Every day a plenty of deadly crashes happens. If a truck is involved, very often the driver is the main causer. Thery have a shit-job. Bad payment, much stress, pressure from the boss, etc... The reputation of this profession is very low, that of the Sprinter-drivers, the delivery vans, even worse. When there are tuning-car-meetings, thy are always very busy. Often they close all streets in the neighbourhood and pick out all pimped clunkers. He says, that they find always something illegal. Depending on the car's owner and his behaviour, sometimes the cops have the personal will to find something...

I'm a trucker and I'm driving like that, too" or "You a..holes, you are always saying bad thing about truckers", are all written in terribly misspelled German...
